free walking tours around the world

  1. I truly love this one since it is mainly focus on cultural and historical parts of the city where walking tour takes place. I didn’t know that there’s something like this. Your post is really a help for someone like me who travel always on a budget. I haven’t been to most of the countries you’ve mentioned above and will surely use your blog post as my future reference. Thank you so much for sharing this with us!

  2. What a comprehensive list and super useful too. I love joining walking tours that it is now one of the things that I look for in my travels. I highly recommend the Tourmeaway in Taiwan and the Rock Tour in Sydney. Both are fun and educational and would really help you get to know the history of the places featured in the tour. Thanks for coming up with this list, now I have one reference to go to.

  3. Already bookmarked. I totally agree that free walking tours are the best way to explore a place and know it better. We did a lot of free walking tours on our Europe trip almost an year back – in Lucerne, Amsterdam, Florence, Venice and where not. And those are the ones we still cherish, more than the museums and the palaces. This is a wonderful compilation and I am so glad it has free walking tours to places that are very much on my list 🙂

  4. Haven’t tried this kind of tour but reading your post makes me wanna try and go. Those tips are very informative. Bookmarking this page of yours. Great content and wonderful photographs!

  5. Great post! We’ve done the free walking tours in several cities in Europe, and always found them to be great tours. This is a great list. Sharing it with my Twitter followers!

  6. hey, thank you so much for this! it helps a lot as i didn’t even know that they actually have such free walking tour when i’ve been to some of the countries on the list. bookmarked! 😀

  7. Wow.. on these tours alone, you must have walked hundreds of miles already. That’s so cool. I haven’t traveled all that much, and when I did I usually go for a DIY tour. Somehow, it has never occurred to me to join free walking tours like these in the list. But thanks to you, I’m now aware and will hit back here if I ever go to any of these places mentioned here. Hopefully you can also update when you join more walking tours. ^_^

    • I normally do a DIY tour as well. But sometimes it’s great to tour around a place with other people and with a knowledgeable local guide who can tell you things that you won’t read from the internet. And without breaking the bank too!

  8. I’m always game for free things! I also love how walking tours give you a glimpse of local life compared to the big tours. I did the one in Hong Kong, and I loved it! I wasn’t aware that a lot of the Asian countries have it too. Will definitely bookmark this!

  9. If I may add: Kuala Lumpur has a free walking tour for Dataran Merdeka and Kampung Baru – two historic districts of the capital. I’ve tried the first one, and our guide was pretty good (hello Yasmin!). You have to email them beforehand to join, though: get in touch via [email protected]. I can send you more info/pictures if you like!

  10. I am always a budget traveler, and whenever I visit a new destination, I first look for free things to do and see. Then I choose what main attractions should I pay. However, in many cities, I really don’t know what should I see for free, and that’s why a guide is necessary. These free walking tours are extraordinary for many reasons, and it is good for every city to have them organized. I personally did not know about some of the cities you mentioned here. So, thank you! 🙂

  11. I am guided tour specialist but do not offer free tours. Not that i don’t want to but simply because it did not cross my mind. In fact, a few days back, a German friend recommended that I join a free walking tour company. I would much rather design my own package than join any other company.

  12. wow. This is a pretty extensive list of free guided walk tours. Should bookmark this in the hope of ticking off some places in my bucket list. I agree with the quality of the tour, even if its free, you still get very good information on the places you are visiting. Well, unless your volunteer guide of the day is nursing a hangover then, better luck next time then. Thanks for sharing!
