  1. Playa Del Amor, Marieta Islands

Playa Del Amor best beach in mexico

There’s nothing like Playa Del Amor for a beach. This hidden paradise is literally hidden in a lush green island that belongs to the uninhabited Marieta group of islands just off the coast of Puerto Vallarta.

Known as the Hidden Beach, the white beach sand is hidden inside a crater where people can access it through a small gap on the rocks surrounding the area. It is unknown exactly what caused this unique land formation but it was said that this part of Marieta islands was used as a military testing ground during the early 1900s. Because the islands are inhabited, the government used the islands for bomb testing which probably affected the topography in the area.

2. Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres

But what makes this beach special? It is the wild turtles nesting in the area. You can literally just walk to the beach and find turtles swimming close to the bay. The seagrass under the water proved to be enticing for wild turtles that Akumal beach has become a turtles nesting area from May to November every year.

4. Playa Paraíso, Tulum

5. Playa Delfines, Cancun

Playa Delfines cancun

Playa Defines is one of the really amazing beaches in Cancun. It is located in the Hotel Zone but it’s on the southern end of the beach zone and it has zero hotels and restaurants in the area. Which also means it’s now as crowded as the other beaches on the coast.

Aside from beach bumming, there are also a few Maya Ruins in the area that visitors can enjoy. Just be careful though, as undertows are quite common in this area.

Side note: depending on the season, Cancun and the rest of Maya Riviera can be covered in seaweed. It’s normal but can be somewhat distracting at times. If you really want to get the most out of the beaches, be sure to check for seaweed conditions around Cancun before visiting.

6. Xpu-Ha Beach, Solidaridad

xpu-ha beach

Xpu-ha beach is a small and pristine beach between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum in Mexico. It is about 20 minutes away or about 16 miles south of Playa Del Carmen.

The lack of commercialism in the area results in fewer tourists but it gives a more idyllic place to relax and enjoy its privacy. There are no massive hotels in the area but there are few small restaurants and bars. Ultimately, Xpu-ha is much quiter than the rest of the Yucatan beach areas.

The beach is ideal for kiteboarding, paddle boarding and kayaking. The reef in the area is also ideal for snorkeling. You have to bring your own equipment for kiteboarding and paddleboarding but you can rent snorkel equipment on the beach.
